Homeostasis, Co-ordination & Response
How the body keeps its internal environment steady using negative feedback, temperature and blood glucose regulation, the nervous system, the reflex arc, and the pupil reflex.
What this topic covers
- Homeostasis means keeping the internal environment constant
- Negative feedback corrects a change by opposing it
- The stimulus is not the same thing as the corrective response
- Body temperature is regulated using skin receptors and the hypothalamus
- Hormones are chemical messengers carried in the blood
- Insulin and glucagon regulate blood glucose in opposite directions
- The nervous system co-ordinates the body using electrical impulses
- The reflex arc: a fixed, automatic, fast pathway
- The pupil reflex adjusts how much light enters the eye
