Percentage means 'out of 100'. It lets us convert and compare quantities, describe change, and solve real-world money problems - profit and loss, discount, GST and commission.

Per cent means out of 100, so and . Any fraction or decimal becomes a percentage when you (so ).
More than 100%, less than 1%
A percentage can be more than 100% (, bigger than the whole) or less than 1% (). It is just a number scaled to hundredths.

Percentage in real life
